Re-Defining the Tournament Predictor for Embedded Systems

چکیده
Looking at trends in recent publications on computer architecture we find that there has been a steep decline in the number of published works relating to branch prediction. Further inspection reveals that while older trends include development of new predictor designs [12][15][8][10], more modern trends have been favoring the consumption of larger history and storage to attain better hit rates [4][3][14][11]. The few new developments in new designs of branch predictors, excluding neural predictors[5][6], generally involve slight modifications to the baseline predictors (bimodal, gshare, and tournament predictors) and can be seen in works such as [9][1][2][7][13]. In this work we present the need for application specific branch prediction in power constrained embedded systems, along with an example demonstrating the performance gains and power reduction for a fraction of the cost paid in advanced predictors mentioned above. 1 Evaluation of Branch

Efficient Simulation of a Random Knockout Tournament
We consider the problem of using simulation to efficiently estimate the win probabilities for participants in a general random knockout tournament. Both of our proposed estimators, one based on the notion of “observed survivals” and the other based on conditional expectation and post-stratification, are highly effective in terms of variance reduction when compared to the raw simulation estimato...
متن کاملLatency Compensation in Multi Chaotic Systems Using the Extended OGY Control Method
The problem discussed in this paper is the effect of latency time on the OGY chaos control methodology in multi chaotic systems. The Smith predictor, rhythmic and memory strategies are embedded in the OGY chaos control method to encounter loop latency. A comparison study is provided and the advantages of the Smith predictor approach are clearly evident from the closed loop responses. The comple...
متن کاملDefining Robust Recovery Solutions for Preserving Service Quality during Rail/Metro Systems Failure
In this paper, we propose a sensitivity analysis for evaluating the effectiveness of recovery solutions in the case of disturbed rail operations. Indeed, when failures or breakdowns occur during daily service, new strategies have to be implemented so as to react appropriately and re-establish ordinary conditions as rapidly as possible. In this context, the use of rail simulation is vital: for e...
متن کاملDefining Sub-Saharan Africa’s Health Workforce Needs: Going Forwards Quickly Into the Past; Comment on “Non-physician Clinicians in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Evolving Role of Physicians”
Recent proposals for re-defining the roles Africa’s health workforce are a continuation of the discussions that have been held since colonial times. The proposals have centred on basing the continent’s healthcare delivery on non-physician clinicians (NPCs) who can be quickly trained and widely distributed to treat majority of the common diseases. Whilst seemingly logical, the success of these p...
متن کاملA Bi-Objective Approach to an Assembly Line Re-Balancing Problem: Model and Differential Evolution Algorithms
Assembly lines are special kinds of production systems which are of great importance in the industrial production of high quantity commodities. In many practical manufacturing systems, configuration of assembly lines is fixed and designing a new line may be incurred huge amount of costs and thereby it is not desirable for practitioners. When some changes related to market demand occur, it is wo...
